Sonia Delaunay, a Paris-based artist, expressed a love of colour throughout her long career. Her insatiable sense of curiosity saw her move effortlessly from the worlds of art to fashion to design. Known best for her paintings, she also created textiles, jewellery, stage sets and much more. Sonia essentially summarized her approach to art and design when she said, βOne who knows how to appreciate color relationships, the influence of one color with another, their contrasts and dissonances, is promised an infinite variety of images.β She married French artist Robert Delaunay in 1910 and the two went on to form the Orphism art movement with fellow artists. Orphism (1912-1914) explored the brash use of colour and geometric forms. Sonia was forever pushing boundaries, applying her bold abstractions in ways that made both the art world and the public take notice of her many talents.
