The exterior facade of the Waterloo Region Museum (Kitchener, Canada) is much more than an eye-catching wall of colour. With the help of a computer generated hexadecimal cipher, the architects encoded a message into the design. Each of the letters from the English alphabet is represented by different colour combinations.

The following passage, from a speech Canadian Prime Minister Wilfred Laurier made in 1905, is encoded into Museum’s wall: “We do not want, that any individuals should forget the land of their origin or their ancestors. Let them look to the past, but let them also look to the future; let them look to the land of their ancestors, but let them look also to the land of their children.” A very apropos and inventive way to introduce the public to the museum and the colourful stories presented within.
