In 2015, the Australian-based architectural firm Studio 505 completed an extensive addition for Singapore's Nanyang Primary School. The colourful buildings form an internal valley within the institution’s overall footprint. As Studio 505’s website states, “Our aim was to create a highly inspirational communal space, designed to showcase active, uninhibited free thinking and bringing joy and excitement equally to children and to the child within the teacher. A space from which everywhere is possible.” The striped facades of the new addition were produced by applying emulsion paint on precast concrete spandrels in concert with coloured aluminium shading shelves. It’s another prime example of how the use of bold colour can help create a vibrant, invigorating atmosphere.
